Nottingham: New plans aim to transform Market Square House into offices, food and leisure space

Plans have been unveiled to redevelop Market Square House in Nottingham city centre, with proposals to turn the prominent building into a mixed-use space combining offices, hospitality and leisure.

Overlooking Old Market Square, the scheme would see the building repositioned to offer flexible workspace alongside food, drink and social areas, with activity throughout the day and into the evening.

Developers say the project will move beyond a standard office refurbishment, instead introducing shared spaces and amenities aimed at attracting a wider mix of users and encouraging greater use of the building beyond traditional working hours. The plans also include opening up the building more to the surrounding square.

Warjinder Khamba, the developer behind the project, said the aim is to bring new activity to the area.

“This part of the city needs regenerating, and we’re excited to play a role in that. Market Square House sits right at the centre of Nottingham, and we see a real opportunity to bring fresh energy back into this area.

“We hope this will be the start of much wider investment in and around the Market Square, helping to create a more vibrant city centre.”

The proposals come as many city centres continue to adapt to changes in how people use offices and public spaces, with a greater focus on flexible working and leisure-led destinations.

Push + Pull Brands has been appointed to develop the project’s branding and marketing.

Leila Gold, of the agency, said there had been strong early interest in the plans and that the focus was on reflecting both the building’s history and its future role in the city.

The building, on St James’s Street, sits close to some of Nottingham’s busiest retail and leisure areas, and the redevelopment is expected to make use of that footfall.

Further details on timings and delivery of the scheme have not yet been confirmed.
