Nottingham: Sex offender jailed after hundreds of indecent images found

A sex offender has been jailed after detectives found hundreds of indecent images of children on his mobile devices.

Police were initially alerted that an indecent photograph had been downloaded at an address in the Alfreton Road area of Nottingham.

One of the people living at the address, Jake Wales, was interviewed by officers on 7 November 2024 and after initial denials admitted he was responsible.

Twenty-eight-year-old Wales, of Cheltenham Street, Nottingham, was arrested and charged after officers analysed his mobile phone and other devices.

They found more than 500 of the most serious Category A images – depicting the most serious abuse that can be perpetrated by adults against children – as well as more than 350 Category B images and more than 1,100 Category C images.

Wales went on to plead guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, possessing extreme pornographic images and possessing a prohibited image of a child.

When he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (29 January), Wales was jailed for 14 months.

Wales was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which will tightly restrict his online activities and access to children when he is eventually released.

Detective Constable Oliver Pemberton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Wales was found in possession of still and moving images of appalling sexual abuse committed against children who are too young to understand or to consent to what is happening to them.

“He may not have carried out the abuse himself but directly contributed to it with each image or video he downloaded or viewed.

“I am pleased he has now been jailed and hope this sentence serves as a warning to others about acting in the same way.”
