The main issues today are continuing works at A52 Wheatcroft and Lowdham, daytime bus diversions in The Meadows, and another closure of the A6097 at East Bridgford tonight.
There is also significant disruption ahead this weekend: NET tram services will be affected by industrial action from Saturday, while the Robin Hood Half Marathon brings extensive road and bus changes on Sunday.
Roads and motorways
No major fresh unplanned incident causing widespread disruption has been identified on Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52 in the early check.
A52 Wheatcroft – restrictions continue
The major utility works at Wheatcroft junction remain one of the principal pressure points south of Nottingham.
National Highways says lane closures remain in place continuously through this weekend as utilities are diverted ahead of the main reconstruction of Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight junctions. A temporary 40mph limit is also in force.
The current closure of Flawforth Lane where it joins the A52 is scheduled to finish at 18:00 today.
There is then another significant change tonight.
Part of the A52 Gamston Link Road at Wheatcroft junction will close overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 tonight, Saturday night and Sunday night, reopening during each daytime period.
East Bridgford – final A6097 night closure
The A6097 between Gunthorpe Bridge and the A46 was scheduled to reopen at 06:00 this morning following Thursday night’s works.
It closes for the fifth and final night tonight, reopening on Saturday morning.
Nottinghamshire County Council says trees and vegetation are being cleared between Kirk Hill junction and the A46 roundabout to allow junction widening and improve visibility.
The signed diversion is via the A46, A617, A614 and A6097.
Long-term construction continues separately at Kirk Hill junction and Lowdham Roundabout.
Mansfield Road – overnight scheme finishes
The major resurfacing programme on A60 Mansfield Road between Goose Fair Island and Forest Road East was scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.
The works have required inbound overnight closures every weeknight since 14 September, diverting NCT Brown, Lime, Yellow and Purple Line buses.
Unless a fresh notice confirms an overrun, I would therefore treat Mansfield Road as back to normal daytime operation this morning rather than carry the closure forward.
Beeston Road – overnight works finish
The overnight closure programme affecting Beeston Road and part of University Boulevard was also scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.
The works have diverted NCT 18, Orange 34C and University hopper 901 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Again, unless an overrun is reported, those diversions should not be carried into Friday’s daytime services.
Rail
No major fresh Nottinghamshire rail incident has been identified in the early check.
There are, however, final-day engineering alterations affecting East Midlands Railway.
The 04:58 Sheffield to London St Pancras departed Sheffield earlier at 04:37 this morning, while the 05:21 Derby to Nottingham left Derby at 05:19, running two minutes early as far as Attenborough.
Tonight, the 22:32 London St Pancras to Sheffield terminates at Derby, with a replacement bus running between Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield. The 23:30 Sheffield to Derby will arrive at Derby later than usual, at 00:30.
These are the final scheduled alterations in this particular Monday-to-Friday engineering programme.
Separate overnight engineering alterations between London St Pancras and Corby, Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield also reach their final scheduled day today.
Trams – major disruption starts tomorrow
This coincides with the opening weekend of Goose Fair and Sunday’s Robin Hood Half Marathon, making public transport particularly important but potentially much busier than normal.
Nuthall Road – final overnight closure
The large resurfacing programme on Nuthall Road continues for one final night.
The closure operates from 19:00 tonight until 06:00 Saturday, affecting NCT Yellow 71/71B and Turquoise 79.
Yellow 71 towards Nottingham follows the Yellow 70 route along Bagnall Road.
Turquoise 79 towards the city diverts via Broxtowe Lane, Aspley Lane and Melbourne Road before returning to Nuthall Road. Buses do not stop on the diversion.
The Meadows – Robin Hood Way closes today
There is a new daytime diversion affecting Navy 48 today.
Robin Hood Way in The Meadows closes between 09:30 and 15:30 today, and again during the same hours on Monday 28 September.
Towards Clifton, buses divert from the Meadows Way/Sheriffs Way junction along Meadows Way and Queens Drive.
Towards Nottingham, buses turn onto Meadows Way from Crossgate Drive before resuming their normal route towards the city centre.
Long Eaton
There is another daytime closure affecting trentbarton passengers today.
College Street in Long Eaton closes between 09:30 and 15:00, affecting indigo.
Buses divert via Wilsthorpe Road, with stops including Breedon Street, Bursar Way, Ravensdale Avenue, Spinney Road, Canal Street and Zingari Club not served.
trentbarton – indigo service updates
Maid Marian Way – Broad Marsh
Traffic management remains around Maid Marian Way during demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park and Nottingham College building.
NCT says it does not currently anticipate having to divert services, but lane restrictions and temporary traffic lights are causing delays.
The current arrangements continue until the end of November.
Other continuing bus disruption
Roadworks on Derby Road continue to cause delays to NCT 18, 34/C, 35/A/B, 36 and hopper 903, with the Hillside stop towards the city or Jubilee Campus closed.
Gas works on Queens Road continue to affect 18/A/B, with the Salisbury Street stop towards Beeston and Stapleford closed.
Linden Way at City Hospital also remains closed, meaning Blue 40A continues to terminate at the Radiotherapy stop on North Road.
Goose Fair begins today
Goose Fair begins at Forest Recreation Ground today and continues into early October.
Drivers should expect additional traffic around Mansfield Road, Gregory Boulevard, Forest Road and the Forest Recreation Ground, particularly later today and over the weekend.
