It is a much more settled start in Nottingham city centre following Monday night’s major Market Street fire.
The emergency services reopened Market Street yesterday afternoon, allowing NET to re-energise the overhead lines and begin recovering trams which had been stranded by the power shutdown.
The principal issues this morning are therefore back to the longer-running disruption: severe bus delays remain possible around Maid Marian Way, gas works continue in West Bridgford, and the third night of significant A52 Clifton Bridge/A453 Silverdale closures takes place tonight. NCTX Apps
Roads and motorways
No major fresh collision or emergency closure causing widespread disruption has been identified in the early checks on Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52.
The strategic network is therefore relatively settled at 06:05, although the usual congestion is likely to build on the A52, A453, A610 and approaches into Nottingham during the morning peak.
Nottingham city centre – Market Street reopened
The major disruption caused by Monday night’s fire should not be carried forward as a road closure this morning.
NET confirmed yesterday afternoon that the emergency services had reopened Market Street, allowing the tram power lines through the city centre to be switched back on.
The fire had caused extensive disruption on Tuesday after overhead power between The Forest and Nottingham Stationhad to be isolated so emergency crews could work safely. This left a number of trams unable to move.
Trams – network recovered after fire disruption
NET said at 6 am:
‘The following terminus departures are cancelled:
07:15, 08:15 from Hucknall
07:08, 08:23 from Toton Lane
07:48, 08:18, 08:33 from Phoenix Park
07:22, 07:37, 08:37 from Clifton South
‘We have a higher-than-usual number of trams needing repair.’
NET said at 5:42pm yesterday that it was re-energising the overhead lines and expected to restore full service during the following hour. There is no fresh network-wide disruption identified in the early check this morning.
One change remains at The Forest: the Forest Park and Ride car park remains closed until 09:00 this morningfollowing Goose Fair.
Maid Marian Way – severe bus delays still warned
Although the fire disruption has eased, the longer-running problem around Maid Marian Way and Broad Marsh remains.
Nottingham City Transport is still carrying a warning that demolition works have left the city centre and surrounding roads severely congested.
NCT says all services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations. NCTX Apps
The contraflow remains in place while demolition of the former Broad Marsh NCP car park continues.
This remains the main location to watch as the Wednesday morning peak develops.
Orange and Turquoise buses remain altered
The substantial city-centre changes introduced to avoid Maid Marian Way remain in place.
Orange 34/C does not serve Maid Marian Way, Broad Marsh, Canal Street, Cranbrook Street or Victoria Centre.
Turquoise 77/C, 78/A/B and 79/B run via Talbot Street to NTU City Campus and continue to The Cornerhouse on Burton Street, where they terminate.
Outward services towards Strelley and Bulwell start from Burton Street stop T7.
Those services do not serve Maid Marian Way, Broad Marsh, George Street, Fletcher Gate or Victoria Centre. Nottingham City Transport
West Bridgford – Gordon Road
The major gas-main works on Gordon Road in West Bridgford continue today.
The closure affects NCT Green 5/A, 6 and 12/C/E towards Nottingham and is currently listed from 5 to 17 October. NCTX Apps
Green 5/A is diverting from Brockley Road via Davies Road and Radcliffe Road to Trent Bridge.

Green 6 uses Stamford Road, Melton Road, Musters Road, Rectory Road and Central Avenue, while Green 12/C/E remains on Radcliffe Road towards Trent Bridge.
The works are also affecting trentbarton services through central West Bridgford.
A52 Clifton Bridge – closures again tonight
The third night of the current National Highways programme takes place tonight around A52 Clifton Bridge.
The A453 northbound to A52 westbound link closes between 20:00 tonight and 06:00 Thursday, including the Silverdale Island entry slip.
Drivers will also be unable to turn right into Silverdale.
One lane of the A52 eastbound between Queens Drive Roundabout and Silverdale will also be closed. Tonight is the final night of this particular phase.
A52 Queens Drive Flyover – tomorrow night
There is a substantial change tomorrow.
On Thursday 8 October, the A52 Queens Drive Flyover will close completely overnight between 20:00 and 06:00.
Queens Drive Island itself remains open.
Further works then move to Queens Drive alongside the Park and Ride site from 9 to 13 October.
Nuthall Road – overnight closure continues
Phase two of the large resurfacing programme on Nuthall Road continues tonight.
The restrictions operate on weekday evenings between 19:00 and 06:00 through Wednesday 14 October.
Yellow 71/B and Turquoise 79/B are affected.
Yellow 71/B towards Bulwell follows the Yellow 70/B route along Bagnall Road, while Turquoise services divert using Melbourne Road, Aspley Lane and Broxtowe Lane. Silverdale – Navy 48A
Tonight’s National Highways works also affect Navy 48A.
The service towards Nottingham diverts during the A453 closure and cannot serve the Silverdale named stop.
NCT warns that delays are likely.
Tonight is the final scheduled night of that particular 48A diversion.
Rail
No major fresh incident affecting Nottinghamshire’s rail network has been identified in the early check.
East Midlands Railway continues to operate its temporary reduced Intercity timetable, affecting some services between Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield and London St Pancras.
Passengers should therefore continue to check individual journeys, particularly on the London route.
Lowdham Roundabout
Long-term construction continues at Lowdham Roundabout as part of the A614/A6097 improvement programme.
The project involves widening approaches and the roundabout itself, and temporary traffic management will continue to change as construction progresses.
Pathfinder 26 passengers should continue to allow additional time through the area.
