The project, which is part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan, means that the bus station will be completely closed from Monday 24 March – Sunday 30 March, re-opening Monday morning 31 March.
‘During this time, resurfacing will take place on York Street, Union Road and all ten bus bays. The pedestrian walkway through the bus station will be open as usual until midnight nightly.
Six weeks of further improvement works to one of Nottingham’s key transport interchanges, Victoria Bus Station started on 17 March.
‘Construction is now in progress at the York Street and Union Road junction to improve traffic flow. This project will replace the current “scissor” configuration, which can be confusing for car park users, with a simpler design that gives buses priority and makes entering the underground car park safer.
‘Temporary traffic management will be in place, but bus service and access to the Victoria Centre car park will remain unaffected.
‘Works will be completed by resurfacing the new layout – this will require further road closures including Victoria Bus Station and access to the car park. These dates will be confirmed in due course.
‘While making these improvements, the opportunity will also be taken to address rutting (depressions in the road caused by bus tires) by applying a “Hardipave” surface treatment.
‘Furthermore, the bus station flooring will be upgraded to enhance passenger comfort, accessibility, and the waiting area, bringing it in line with the Broad Marsh Bus Station.
‘The BSIP programme is a partnership between councils and bus operators in Greater Nottingham to bid for £13.8m of Government funding to improve services for local passengers. It has been produced by Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.’
