Residents of Nottinghamshire are being thanked again for playing their part in preventing the spread of Coronavirus by staying indoors.
The understanding and compliance by most people with the national request for social distancing has meant Nottinghamshire Police has handed out among the lowest numbers of fines in the country to people flouting the rules.
A total of 89 fixed penalty notices have been given to people across Nottinghamshire between 27 March and 27 April, according to new national figures released by the ACRO Criminal Records Office.
It puts the force in the bottom quarter of all forces across the country for the number of fines handed out.
Assistant Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “The people of Nottinghamshire have been fantastic at following the national guidance – which is given to ensure the NHS doesn’t become overwhelmed with people coming to hospital suffering from the effects.
“The low number of fixed penalty notices handed out by our officers is a reflection of the fact that most people have taken the advice on board. It is also a reflection of the way that we have engaged with people and explained the guidance and encouraged them to stay at home – with enforcement as a last resort. Unfortunately, there is a minority who persistently go against the guidance or refuse to engage and in those circumstances, they are given fixed penalty notices.
“I’m sure most people share our frustration with those people but I’d again like to thank the majority who understand why it is so important to stay safe and stay indoors.”
