Two suspects have been arrested after a bike rider reportedly brandished a weapon in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Police were notified following reports someone on an off-road bike was riding around the town centre threatening people with a bladed weapon.
The rider at one stage crashed into a kerb and dropped the weapon, with another person reportedly picking it up and getting on the back of the bike.
Nobody was injured during the incident at around 12.10pm yesterday (27 July), with officers arriving and conducting an area search.
A bike matching the description of the one seen was duly located in nearby Mapplewells Road, along with a garden scythe and two suspects.
Two men, aged 20 and 35 were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, possessing a bladed article and affray.
The 20-year-old was additionally arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and other driving offences.
Inspector Keith Croft, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“While thankfully nobody was harmed during this incident, it will have no doubt caused great alarm to anyone who witnessed it.
“Put simply, there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for anyone to brandish a bladed weapon and threaten someone with it, as we understand took place on this occasion.
“Having heard about what was happening, our officers did a great job attending as quickly as they did, before finding the bike and weapon in question and arresting two suspects, following an area search.”
