Over 400 new police officers for Nottinghamshire as Government hits recruitment target

Today, the Government says that it has delivered on its promise to recruit 20,000 new police officers. 418 new officers are serving in Nottinghamshire as part of this increase.

Rushcliffe’s MP, Ruth Edwards, together with Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry, were in East Leake last weekend to share the news with residents and listen to their views on what issues these new officers should prioritise.

The news comes after last month’s announcement of the Government’s Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan which included a new approach to tackling anti-social behaviour, that will be rolled out in Nottinghamshire.

The scheme will deliver swift punishments to offenders, making them repair the damage they inflict on victims and communities within 48 hours of an offence.

Police will also be given new powers to tackle drug dealing and on-the-spot fines will be increased to £1,000 for fly-tipping and £500 for litter and graffiti.

•  Eleven arrests in Nottingham city centre for multiple offences

This builds on the powers that the Government has previously granted to police officers to tackle crimes that blight our rural areas, like fly-tipping and hare coursing, as well as a larger focus from Nottinghamshire Police on engagement with rural communities.

Ruth said: “I am delighted that the Government has delivered on its promise to recruit 20,000 new police officers and that 418 are serving in Nottinghamshire. I know they will be working hard to make our communities safer.

“I want to hear from residents about the issues they think we should be prioritising here in Rushcliffe, and make sure that their views are fed back to the police.”
