Residents, veterans and visitors gathered in Loughborough to pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for their country on Remembrance Sunday.
The annual service, hosted by Charnwood Borough Council on Sunday, 8 November, saw crowds of people come together at the Carillon Tower War Memorial in Queen’s Park to honour those who lost their lives in conflict and those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces.

Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Colin Hamilton said: “It was a privilege to join our communities in remembrance and reflection on such an important day.

“The large number of people who attended demonstrates the deep respect and gratitude felt across Charnwood for those who have served our country.

“Remembrance Sunday provides an opportunity not only to honour the sacrifices of the past but also to recognise the dedication of serving personnel, veterans and military families today.”

The Remembrance parade began in Market Place before making its way through the town centre to Queen’s Park, where the service was led by The Revd. Emily Sharman, Chaplain to the Royal British Legion, Loughborough Branch & Rector of All Saints with Holy Trinity Parish Church.

The traditional two-minute silence was observed at 11am, followed by wreath laying at the Carillon by civic representatives, veterans, military organisations, emergency services, community groups and members of the public.
Large screens beside the memorial enabled attendees to follow the service closely, while many more people joined via a livestream on YouTube.
Representatives from across the borough were joined by veterans, cadets, uniformed organisations and local groups, reflecting the community’s continued commitment to remembering those who gave their lives in service to their country.
Remembrance services and parades were also held across Charnwood’s villages and towns, including Anstey, Barrow upon Soar, Birstall, East Goscote, Mountsorrel, Queniborough, Thurmaston, Shepshed, Syston, Swithland, Woodhouse and Wymeswold.
There will also be an Armistice Day service at the Carillon in Queen’s Park on Wednesday, November 11, starting at 10.50am and led by The Revd. Emily Sharman. The Last Post will be played and at 11am a two-minute silence will be observed.
The Garden of Remembrance service took place at Queen’s Park on Saturday, 31 October.
