Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards has praised local charity Sewa Day Nottingham that operates nationally, which is supplying food and essentials to other organisations who support the most vulnerable people during the Coronavirus lockdown.
Led by Hetvi Parekh from Edwalton, Sewa Day’s nine volunteers are helping 10 organisations such as food banks, homeless charities and housing associations to get what they need using links with supermarkets, pubs and donations from local people.
Sewa Day is also backed by various Indian and Hindu organisations including the Hindu Temple, Sai Dham, Bhagwati Shakti Peeth, Gujarat Samaj, NAAC and CWT. It has also been helped by the local West Bridgford Community Helpers group.
It is now working in partnership with Open Kitchens and Nottingham Forest Football Club and is looking for people who can help out with refrigerated vans for delivery of food to the NHS.

Ruth, who volunteered with Sewa Day in West Bridgford on Friday, helped pick up supplies while adhering to social distancing measures. She was hugely impressed with the work Sewa Day was doing and had high praise for Hetvi and all the volunteers.
“This is vital work making sure charities such as Framework’s Transitions South, among several others, receive essential supplies like food and toiletries so it can continue its work with young homeless people during the lockdown,” said Ruth.
“I would also like to thank the generosity of local residents and local supermarkets who are continuing to donate food such as tins, snacks, pet food and toiletries, which are much needed.”
“This is a real community effort and I thank all the volunteers and especially Hetvi for everything they are doing to help vulnerable people during this national emergency.”
“We started at the Larwood and Voce pub near Trent Bridge where we collected hot meals for NHS workers. It was wonderful to see the community here in Rushcliffe pulling together. We also took donations from Morrisons in Gamston”
