Plans for new martial arts gym in Colwick

An industrial unit in Nottingham could become a new martial arts gym under new plans.

Tana Martial Arts has submitted plans to Nottingham City Council to relocate to a property to the north of Daleside Road, on Colwick Road.

The industrial unit sits next to the railway line.

The martial arts provider is currently based in Gedling Road, Carlton, according to Companies House.

“Works to facilitate the change of use are proposed to be limited to internal fit out and improving of the toilets and welfare facilities,” plans say.

“No external changes are proposed to the building, or the site. The site has existing vehicle and pedestrian access from Colwick Road, and on-site parking for four cars, plus an additional two cars if parked in tandem.

“On street parking on Colwick Road is unrestricted and plentiful. The site benefits from good off-road cycle and pedestrian links, as well as public transport links to the surrounding context, including to Nottingham city centre to the west.

“It is anticipated, based on the current gym (which is being relocated) that most users will travel to the site by public transport, cycling or walking.”

It is expected the new gym will create “a minimum” of two jobs.

The new building will feature space for the gym and training equipment, as well as an office and kitchen area.

The plans will now be considered by the council’s planning officers, pending a final decision.
