A former Mansfield vet practice could be turned into a large HMO.
Applicant Ginny Eleanor Buckman, of Signature Residential Limited, has applied to Mansfield District Council to turn a property in St John’s Place into an eight-bed, eight-person house in multiple occupation (HMO).
The site is a residential-style property and was formerly used by a vet practice. D Brown Veterinary Surgery was listed at this address but it is understood the practice closed following the death of the owner and planning documents state the site is currently vacant.
Plans say changing the use of the property is to address “the growing demand for shared housing in Mansfield”.
The amount of HMOs in certain areas is a growing concern but documents say a “thorough analysis” of the area’s HMOs was done to ensure the new venture would not lead to an “overconcentration”.
Documents say the property is currently “underutilised” and converting it into a new HMO will “optimise its use without significantly reducing the availability of family housing in the area”.
The property features secure bicycle storage and already has four car parking spaces, while also being well-connected to various bus routes.
According to planning papers, the HMO would be “professionally managed”, including tenant screening, responsible occupancy and property maintenance, while having a “positive” impact on the town’s housing mix.
The council will decide on this application at a later date.
