Police detain teenagers on an inflatable boat after reports of firearms possession

Two teenagers were detained within twenty minutes following a report of boys in an inflatable boat on the River Trent in possession of a weapon.

Nottinghamshire Police were called this morning at around 9.45am in Newark following a report of a firearms incident.

It was reported two boys were on a small inflatable boat with an air rifle. They were detained swiftly following a call from concerned members of the public and parents were called to collect them.

Officers continue with their investigation and have asked if anyone has any information to come forward.

Newark Police Constable Archie Fogg said: “Wildlife offences are a priority in Newark. As such, a number of officers were quickly in the area detaining the individuals responsible.

“Nottinghamshire Police will always thoroughly investigate such an offence with a view to taking appropriate action against offenders.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area at the time to report it to Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 131 of 14 April 2021.”
