A suspected thief was sniffed out by a police dog and arrested after a car was stolen from a driveway.
Police were called at around 2am this morning (Monday) after the vehicle was taken from an address in Melford Hall Drive, West Bridgford.
The vehicle was later spotted in Hill Road, Gotham, where a suspect was seen to get out and run away through a field.
Operating in total darkness, PD Drax began a search of the area.
After around 50 minutes the dog identified a man hiding in a bush and alerted his handler.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and remains in police custody.
PC Simon Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a great piece of work by PD Drax that once again highlights the critical role played by our police dogs.
“Officers were working in total darkness and had a very large area to search. Without PD Drax and his highly-trained sense of smell it is unlikely they would have been able to find this suspect.”
Drax, a two-year-old German Shepherd, chalked up a similar collar around six weeks ago when he sniffed out another suspect who was also hiding in a bush.
