Police pursuit of motorcycle reaches 125 mph through Rushcliffe

A reckless motorbike rider who hit speeds of up to 125 mph failed in his attempts to outrun police.

Officers from the roads policing unit were stationed in an unmarked car when they spotted a green Kawasaki ER 650 EEF speeding along Stragglethorpe Road, near Cotgrave.

The police car’s blue lights were activated to notify the rider of their presence, but instead, the biker failed to stop and led officers on a 10-minute pursuit down winding country lanes across Rushcliffe at around 9.45pm on Wednesday, 10 December.

During the pursuit, the biker was clocked speeding through villages at 60mph in a 30mph zone and was reported to have reached 125mph.

The pursuit came to an end after the biker attempted to go off-road down a track near RAF Langar.

The rider crashed into a metal gate at low speed and fell from the motorbike. He then attempted to flee on foot across nearby fields but was detained by officers after a short chase.

A 44-year-old man will be interviewed in due course on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

DI Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This rider’s standard of driving fell far below that of a careful and competent motorist.

“Not only are these speeds a nuisance to residents late at night, but reaching speeds well in excess of 100mph is not only reckless, it places the rider, officers, and the public at increased risk of serious harm or injury.

“It is an important reminder that our officers will continue to patrol our roads throughout December to clamp down on dangerous drivers and those who are unfit to get behind the wheel through drink or drugs.

“Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads is a priority for Nottinghamshire Police, and we want to ensure the county’s roads remain safe for all.”
