The Nottingham city centre neighbourhood policing team were out in the city yesterday carrying out an operation in a bid to crack down on people carrying knives.
Heading down to the bottom of Lister Gate with a knife arch in tow the team say they spent the morning speaking to commuters and the public and keeping an eye out for anyone acting suspiciously.
In uniform and plain clothes, it wasn’t long before they had their first job and spent the next few hours out on patrol.
Over the course of the morning the team:
Stopped and searched nine people
Arrested one wanted man
Recovered one bladed article
Issued one dispersal notice for a person to leave the city centre
PC Paul Stevenson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“While it was great to recover blades and arrest suspects – it was also great to see such a wave of support behind the operation from the community who stopped to speak to us about what we were doing and why.
“The results show that sometimes operations like this are necessary but the vast majority of people walking through the arch were pleased to see action being taken and reacted positively.

“Thanks to everyone who stopped for a chat and supported us.”
