Pothole near West Bridgford Aldi still unrepaired months after report, councillor says

A councillor has criticised delays in repairing a pothole on Wilford Lane in West Bridgford, saying the problem was first reported last December and remains unresolved months later.

The pothole is close to the Aldi store on Wilford Lane, a busy route used by local residents, shoppers and commuters. In an update to residents, Cllr Hari Om ( Compton Acres ward ) said he had first reported the defect in December and later raised it again through the highways reporting system.

He warned drivers to take care, saying the pothole could cause damage to vehicles if not repaired.

The councillor also questioned previous promises over the speed of pothole repairs, referring to a commitment that potholes would be fixed within 72 hours. He said the continued presence of the Wilford Lane pothole showed residents were still waiting for practical action.

He added that the council’s “Pothole Pro” machine should be used to deliver visible improvements on local roads, rather than being associated with publicity and photo opportunities.

In the update, the councillor said: “Drivers and residents are still forced to dodge this dangerous pothole every single day, risking costly repair bills and unsafe road conditions.”

He asked how many more complaints or damaged vehicles would be needed before the defect was repaired.

The issue comes amid continuing concern from residents across Nottinghamshire about the condition of local roads, with potholes regularly raised as one of the most visible highways problems affecting drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Residents who spot potholes or road defects are usually advised to report them through the county council’s highways reporting system, giving the exact location and, where possible, photographs of the problem.
