East Midlands Railway announced the incident this afternoon.
The operator said at 3 pm on Tuesday 26 August:
‘We are sad to report that a person was hit by a train earlier today. This occurred between Kettering and Leicester and is disrupting our trains on the London St Pancras/Nottingham/Sheffield route.
‘Emergency services have attended the site and the line is now open.
‘Trains running through the area in both directions will be subject to delays as we rebuild our train service
‘Our priority is to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 18:00.’
