Rampton Hospital in Nottinghamshire is to receive £527,000 to replace air conditioning in a unit as part of a national investment in NHS buildings and facilities.
The government says the work will help keep areas cool and maintain a stable environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The allocation forms part of more than £32 million for projects involving cooling, ventilation and overheating across the NHS, aimed at helping hospitals cope with periods of extreme heat and reducing disruption to patient care.
The announcement does not identify the unit at Rampton or give a timetable for the work.
Nationally, more than £1.5 billion is being allocated to hospital buildings and facilities, with over £200 million for 10 major hospital projects and more than £1.3 billion for maintenance, safety and resilience improvements.
Rampton’s air conditioning replacement is among more than 950 approved schemes across England addressing problems including fire safety, ageing ventilation systems and electrical equipment.
The government says the investment is intended to help hospitals remain safe and operational throughout the year, as services face sustained demand alongside seasonal pressures.
The wider programme includes new operating theatres, a children’s ward and improvements to maternity and mental health facilities.
