A children’s play area in Beeston has been temporarily closed after razor blades were discovered in a sand pit.
The discovery was made at the play area in Broadgate Park on Friday 10 July, prompting the council to close the site while safety checks were carried out.
The main play area is expected to reopen on Saturday 11 July, but the sand pit will remain closed until all of the sand can be safely removed and replaced.
The council said the safety and wellbeing of children was its “highest priority” and described the incident as deeply disappointing.
It said: “We are deeply disappointed that anyone would act in a way that could put their safety at risk.”
The council is working with Nottinghamshire Police and CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of ongoing inquiries.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or finds anything concerning in a play area is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 and inform the council on 0115 917 7777.
The council added that any information, regardless of how insignificant it may appear, could assist the investigation.
