A machete has been seized and taken off the streets after a teenage boy was arrested in Beeston.
Officers were responding to reports of a young person carrying a large knife near Tesco on Station Road at 10.25 pm on Monday (6 July).
Minutes later, someone matching the description was spotted at the Beeston Centre tram stop on Styring Street, boarding a tram.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene and escorted the teenager off the tram to conduct a search.
A small amount of cannabis and a large machete concealed in a drawstring bag were duly seized by officers.

As the teenage boy was being transported into custody, he kicked two officers and the windows of a police car.
A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to his age, has now been charged with possession of a knife in a public place, possession of a Class B drug, two counts of assault by beating emergency workers, and criminal damage.
He has been released on conditional bail with a curfew and will appear at Nottingham Youth Court on 20 July.
Sergeant Ash Butler, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “There is never any justification for carrying a machete.
“We understand the public are rightly concerned about people carrying knives, which is why officers are actively tackling this criminality.
“There is also no excuse for violence towards police officers, who are simply doing their job to help keep the public safe.
“We would always encourage people in the community to report any concerns directly to us so that officers can respond at the earliest opportunity.
“Thankfully, we have now removed a dangerous weapon from the streets.”
