Road closed: National Highways urges drivers to avoid A1 Nottinghamshire and follow diversion

Drivers are being urged to ensure they follow signed diversion routes following the closure of the A1 in Nottinghamshire today after a serious incident.

Both north and southbound carriageways of the road were closed between the A57/A614 (Markham Moor) and B6325 (North Muskham) after the incident which was reported shortly before 7.30am today.

The northbound section will be opening shortly but the southbound is expected to remain shut until late afternoon while police investigations are carried out.

A signed diversion route is in place via the A614, A616 and B6325.

National Highways Operations Manager, Mark Munnoch, said:

“It is important that people follow the official diversion route and not their sat navs. Alternative roads are not suitable for larger vehicles or heavy traffic and will cause further issues and delays.

“We will get the road open as soon as possible but in the meantime would advise people to allow extra time for journeys.”
