A robbery suspect was tracked down within an hour of a shop being targeted.
An individual carrying a shopping basket reportedly intimidated staff at Morrisons in Aspley.
Having threatened to assault anyone who stopped him, he walked out with laundry products he hadn’t paid for.
He then got into a black Mercedes parked outside the Aspley Lane-based store, around 4.10pm on Wednesday (18 March).
Having watched the man drive away from the scene, store staff called the police and passed on the vehicle’s details to them.
Before an hour had passed, Road Crime team officers managed to track down a Mercedes in Basford which they believe was involved.
They would go on to arrest the man inside it on suspicion of robbery, before checks of the car suggested it had been stolen a month earlier too.
The 42-year-old was duly additionally arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
Detective Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Robbery in all its forms is a horrendous crime that can cause real and lingering damage to people’s lives.
“In terms of Wednesday’s incident, shop staff were reportedly told they would be assaulted if they didn’t let an offender leave with stolen items.
“That is completely unacceptable, so our Road Crime team did a great job tracking down a suspect as quickly as they did.
“Having been called about the robbery not long after it had happened, the officers scoured the nearby area before finding this individual.
“Not just that, but they were also able to recover a Mercedes that had been reported stolen in February, so this was very much a double win.”
