Rushcliffe police inspector’s detailed monthly update for the community

Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Tim Cuthbert updates the community on priorities, wins and methods police are using to protect people in the area.

Tim writes:

‘As we started 2025 with our new set of local priorities (see the previous blog), the team has been extremely busy tackling drug offences, ASB, and road safety.

‘If you’re a follower of our Facebook pages, you’ll no doubt have seen the wealth of proactive operations and warrants that have taken place, resulting in the seizure of three cannabis grows and the execution of a search warrant in Bingham, where we seized Class A and B drugs, leading to the arrest of a male for possession with intent to supply.

•  West Bridgford cannabis grow discovered in suburban home

•  Tollerton: £70,000 cannabis factory discovered in secluded property

•  Bingham raid leads to suspected controlled drugs discovery

‘As with all cannabis grows, we work with the local authorities to identify possible rogue landlords. Where properties are rented out for the production of cannabis, the investigation extends to anyone suspected of allowing the production of cannabis on a premises, as well as those we suspect of controlling the cannabis grow site. These enforcement operations will continue in the coming months, so please keep an eye on our Notts Alerts and Facebook updates for details of our latest enforcements.

‘As you may have seen on the news, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground hosted a regional multi-agency training exercise for a joint emergency services response to a ‘marauding terrorist attack-style incident’. I must stress that this is not in response to any specific or local intelligence but is part of national training, which tests the joint responses of unarmed and armed police resources, Fire & Rescue, and ambulance services to the most serious of incidents, as well as involving other national and regional organisations. A host of role-player volunteers also took part in the day, and I was fortunate to take up the role of the on-scene first responder Police Commander for the operation. I was extremely impressed with all the agencies involved and very proud to work alongside them. Their preparedness and cooperation in what is quite an intense training environment were commendable, and I would also like to extend a big thanks to the team at Trent Bridge for their support.

‘In terms of crime updates, we’ve continued to see our shoplifting numbers remain low in recent months, as well as a continued decrease in bike thefts. This is no doubt due to ongoing efforts to target key offenders, the use of Criminal Behaviour Orders, and joint police and Rushcliffe Borough Council bike-marking events.

‘However, since Christmas, we have seen a slight increase in burglaries in Rushcliffe, primarily along the A46 corridor. Needless to say, we have deployed extra targeted patrols, with officers working additional hours overnight in the affected areas, as well as utilising specialist road crime officers. Our Notts Police website contains simple tips to help reduce the likelihood of your home or outbuildings being targeted, so please visit this link if you haven’t already: Crime preventionadvice | Nottinghamshire Police.

‘One of the three key pillars of neighbourhood policing is problem-solving. We currently have problem management plans in place for ASB in West Bridgford and ASB in East Leake, but I wanted to explain a bit more about how we specifically address such issues and how they’re managed.

•  West Bridgford sees reduction in ASB thanks to Council and Police partnerships

•  East Leake: Areas designated anti-social behaviour hotspots as police tackle group

‘If we identify a recurring problem in an area that has a local impact and can cause harm, we consider implementing a formal Problem Management Plan. This is then discussed with our Notts Police Prevention Hub and reviewed monthly at our multi-agency meeting with partners. At these meetings, we discuss progress on the plans and assign actions to various agencies, who report back to ensure we are all taking the necessary steps to address the issue.

‘We use this system to manage a variety of issues, from ASB to theft or any specific problem where a joint approach can produce tangible results. Over the past year, we have used these plans to tackle rooftop climbing issues on Central Avenue, ASB nuisance linked to swimming in the Trent near Holme Pierrepont, and ASB-related damage at a community garden in Cotgrave.’

•  Rushcliffe police plea to parents to stop children jumping into the River Trent or any open water

•  Police warning after groups of 20 youths scale rooftops in West Bridgford

Following a year of considerable structural changes in neighbourhood policing, I’m pleased to say that we now have a larger, more established team of officers dedicated to the Rushcliffe area than we did a year ago. We have a new policy that has reduced the number of times officers are taken away from their core NPT roles, allowing more time to focus on local priorities.

We also now have a more established local Night-Time Economy patrol plan, which you may have seen in action when out and about in Rushcliffe on a Friday or Saturday evening. Additionally, we are now able to dedicate more time to proactive crime-fighting operations in our area.

We cannot do any of this without the support and information we receive from the local community in Rushcliffe, so if you see something suspicious, please report it via 999 if it’s happening now or 101 if it’s after the event.

As always, I encourage you all to sign up for Notts Alerts via this link: Home Page – Notts Alerts if you haven’t already, and please keep an eye out for Beat Surgeries if you want to meet the team and discuss local issues affecting you.

Take care,
Tim Cuthbert, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Rushcliffe
