Ruth Edwards MP launches campaign for new East Leake Health and Community Hub

This week Ruth Edwards MP launched a campaign asking residents in East Leake to support a bid for a new Health and Community Hub in the centre of the village.

Ruth is working with Rushcliffe Borough Council and local health authorities to bid for funding from the Government’s £4.8bn Levelling Up Fund.

East Leake Health Centre is one of the oldest health centres in Nottinghamshire. It is no longer big enough to serve the growing population in East Leake and is in need of significant refurbishment.

If successful, the bid will transform the centre into a modern, purpose-built Health and Community Hub that can house multiple services such as physiotherapy, a pharmacy and social services such as a library. Dr Fraser, a GP partner at the Health Centre said “a new Health Centre would give us the ability to provide a far wider range of services and higher quality of service to our patients.”

Campaigning for a new health centre in East Leake was one of Ruth’s key election promises. She has been making the case in Parliament and to the Secretary of State for Health.

Ruth is urging residents in the area to back the bid in order to show the strength of local support for this new facility. Residents can join others in registering their support by going to https://www.ruthedwards.org.uk/news/east-leake-health-and-community-hub. ‘Back the Bid’ flyers are also being delivered in East Leake so that residents can sign up to support it by post as well as online.

Ruth said:

“East Leake Health Centre has been in need of refurbishment for some time now, so I am delighted to be joining with Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire’s Clinical Commissioning Group to campaign for a modern Health and Community Hub

“I am urging everyone in the village and the surrounding areas to put their weight behind this campaign and show how much we need this facility.”

Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, Simon Robinson said:

“I ask all residents of East Leake to support the Rushcliffe and NHS Clinical Commissioning Group bid to Central Government to provide a new state of the art Community Hub in the village.

“Bringing services together such as the local GPs, pharmacy and the library will bring huge benefits to the village and all the users of these services. The new Community Hub at Cotgrave we built a few years ago has proved very successful and we aim to bring all the benefits we have seen there to East Leake.”
