Ruth Edwards MP welcomes new school crossing at Greythorn Primary School

Ruth Edwards MP met with the Deputy Head of Greythorn Primary School, pupils and local community activists, on Greythorn Drive to welcome the new zebra crossing that the County Council have installed outside Greythorn Primary School in West Bridgford.

Ruth had been contacted by constituents who had serious concerns about road safety on the road outside for school, especially with the amount of traffic outside the school which had increased in recent years. There were also safety concerns about speeding at the site.

Thanks to the campaign efforts of local residents and council candidate Gordon Wheeler, who have campaigned on this issue over a number of years, this has forced this safety concern up the County Council’s agenda. Following Ruth highlighting the strength of feeling about the need for a new crossing to the County Council, the crossing has since been installed, to the delight of the local community

Ruth said:

“I’m really pleased that the County Council have listened to community’s concerns and installed the crossing outside Greythorn Primary School. It was quite clear from the correspondence I received that safety was a genuine concern for parents who told me they even were afraid to send their children to school on their own.

“This crossing will go some way in addressing those safety concerns and it’s a testament to the hard work and campaigning of residents and Gordon Wheeler that this has now been achieved.”
