Samurai swords and drugs found in two Nottingham city police raids

Nottingham City West officers found Class A drugs, two Samurai swords and cannabis during two raids 24-hours apart from one another.

Faced with the prospect of police using a ram to force their way inside a house in Woodfield Road, the occupants of that address decided to let them in on Thursday (15 May).

Neighbourhood officers were on hand to conduct a 9am warrant at the property, after collecting community information that the house was harbouring drugs inside it.

This proved to be the case, with officers finding and seizing Class A drugs, quantities of cannabis and cash from across the property.

Two swords located inside the address were also seized.

Police found a 37-year-old man within the house, who they subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Around the same time the day before (14 May), the City West team executed a separate warrant at an address in Ryton Square – once again guided by community information.

The team were able to seize quantities of cannabis and a couple of knives from the house on this occasion.

Two suspects found at the scene are due to be interviewed in connection with this in due course.

PC Dan Johnson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“There’s a good chance neither of these two warrants would’ve happened, had the public not shared their suspicions with us.

“Community information plays such a big role in enabling us as a neighbourhood policing team to identify problems and take action, whether that be through raids like these ones or other policing operations.

“Taking these two warrants as an example, we were ultimately able to seize drugs and weapons and also arrest a suspect as a direct result of this method, so we’re very pleased.”
