A shoplifter has been jailed after he was caught stealing two bottles of whiskey by an off-duty police officer.
Aaron Kelly, aged 34, was spotted removing the bottles’ security tags at Morisons in Green Lane, Clifton.
He was detained by the officer shortly before 2.30pm on Sunday.
Kelly, of Eddleston Drive, Clifton, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to theft.
He also admitted to two other shoplifting offences in the area – at B&M on 19 August and 22 August – and was jailed for 12 weeks.
PC Sid Cook, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The officer in this case was off-duty and without any protective equipment. However, that didn’t stop him from stepping in when he saw this offence.
“Kelly is a prolific shop thief with multiple previous convictions to his name, so I hope this latest prison sentence will be his last.”
