A prolific shoplifter who flouted a court order banning him from stores on multiple occasions has been jailed.
Jack Newcombe ignored the terms of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) when he entered two Co-op stores in order to steal from the shelves.
He had been banned from entering any Co-op store in Nottinghamshire on 6 December 2023, with the order put in place for three years.
The 35-year-old walked into the stores, in Sneinton Dale and West Bridgford, and stole items including ice cream, meat and coffee.
The offences were among a series of shop thefts, with Newcombe also targeting other supermarkets, convenience stores and a pharmacy between June and October 2025.
Newcombe, of no fixed adress, pleaded guilty to nine counts of shop theft and breaching a CBO.
He was jailed for a total of 12 months when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (13 October).
PC Matthew Holden, of the Rushcliffe neighbourhood policing team, said:
“By ignoring the terms of an order placed upon him, Newcombe has again showed a blatant disregard for the law.
“We worked hard alongside shop security teams to get the CBO imposed in the first place as we knew this offender was a persistent blight on businesses across the south of Nottingham and West Bridgford.
“I’m pleased the court has now imposed a custodial sentence on him and hope this provides some respite for those his offending has impacted upon.
“There is significant help and support offered to individuals before we take action to apply for these orders – but Newcombe has refused to engage.
“I hope that he uses this latest spell in custody to change his behaviour. However, if he chooses not to we will keep locking him up.”
