Six arrests in 72 hours for three different burglary incidents

Nottinghamshire Police has six suspects in custody as a result of some excellent work in the last 72 hours.

The arrests relate to three separate burglaries including a man who escaped out of a window after being threatened by armed men, a man disturbing three offenders who had ransacked his flat and an elderly woman being pushed in her own home.

Officers swiftly responded to a report of two men who entered through a window of a property in Harkstead Road, Top Valley, before threatening a man with machetes. The victim managed to get escape out of his bedroom window and onto a flat roof. He was unharmed.

The suspects stole cash before fleeing.

Following extensive enquiries into the incident, which happened at around 4am today (Tuesday 18 May 2021), officer arrested two men, both aged 19, at an address in Bulwell this morning on suspicion of burglary. They remain in custody.

Officers were also quick to respond to a second separate burglary at a flat in Bath Lane, Mansfield, at around 1.30pm yesterday (Monday 17 May 2021).

The victim returned home to find three men inside. They ran out of his front door carrying a bag before escaping in a vehicle. Electrical items and personal effects were stolen.

As a result of some excellent teamwork involving the force’s operational support department and Mansfield response officers, a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident was stopped and two men, aged 27 and 25, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A third positive result was the arrest of a 32-year-old man today, following intelligence received relating to a break-in in Furlong Street, Arnold, on Saturday afternoon (15 May 2021).

An elderly woman was shoved out of the way by an intruder in her home who stole her television, among other items.

Over five fewer homes a day were burgled in Nottinghamshire in the year to 31 December 2020, compared to the previous year, according to the latest official figures from the Office for National Statistics. This is a drop of 1,978 burglaries (down 25 per cent).

The force has two dedicated burglary teams operating across the city and county who are supported in tackling burglary by response and neighbourhood officers, as well as a burglary enforcement Special Constable team.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Waldram, the force’s burglary lead, said: “Our success in reducing burglary across Nottinghamshire is very much reflective of the hard work of our officers and police teams day-in, day-out, to tackle this issue which remains a priority for the force.

“As well as taking robust action against offenders we are also continuing to doing lots of preventative work in our communities to ensure residents and businesses can take steps to protect themselves from falling victims to burglars and to ensure crime remains low as we come out of the Covid-19 lockdown and work our way through the roadmap.

“We understand that burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime, but coming face to face with an offender makes it even more traumatic.

“I want to reassure people that we treat all reports extremely seriously and we will investigate offences, support victims and continue to work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”
