Six fire crews called to factory blaze at Ilkeston

Six fire engines have been called to a fire at a disused building in Ilkeston.

Firefighters were mobilised to Heanor Road following a 999 call at 4.46am today, Wednesday 10 June.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and an incident command unit are at the scene.

Crews from Ilkeston, Ascot Drive and Long Eaton are in attendance, supported by Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service crews from Eastwood, Stockhill and Stapleford.

Derbyshire Constabulary is also at the scene.

People who can see or smell smoke are being advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Members of the public are also being asked to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service thanked people for calling 999 to report the fire, but said crews are now aware and dealing with the incident.

No further information has been released at this stage.

Trent Barton said:

‘Heanor Road in Ilkeston is currently closed due to a fire, our 33 and 34 services are on a small diversion missing the following stops both ways.’

Police in Derbyshire said:

‘Firefighters from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene. The road closure will affect bus services, please check with the bus provider for updates on routes affected.’
