Suspects tracked by police dog to a Bingham garden

Two suspects in Bingham were tracked through the darkness by a police dog unit.

PD Rooster and his handler, PC Katie Brough, were investigating reports of a break‑in at around 1am on Sunday 13 April when they began searching for two suspects in the Bingham area.

The search followed an earlier attempt to steal a motorcycle in The Meadows area of Nottingham, as well as the arrest of two other suspects in Bingham.

Rooster, a 20‑month‑old German Shepherd, was deployed on his tracking line on Bishops Road. He then led his handler to the front garden of a property in Queens Court, where two suspects were located.

The pair, aged 18 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and were later released on bail.

Sergeant Nick Dachtler, of Nottinghamshire Police’s dog section, said:

“This was an excellent result for PD Rooster and his handler, who are developing a really effective partnership together.

“It’s during incidents like this – when officers are literally in the dark about where suspects may be – that our general‑purpose dogs like Rooster really come into their own.”
