Teamwork between South Yorkshire Police response, roads policing and Nottinghamshire officers brought a cross-border pursuit to an end and led to three men in the cells.
On Sunday night (31 August), just before midnight, Rotherham response officers were on patrol in Maltby when they became aware of a Volkswagen Golf on Grange Lane. Officers could smell cannabis coming from the car and requested the driver to stop.
The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit commenced, travelling through Rotherham and into the Nottinghamshire area. During the pursuit the driver attempted to evade officers by reaching speeds of up to 90mph and travelling on the wrong side of country roads.
While response officers were continuing with the pursuit, South Yorkshire Police’s and Nottinghamshire Police’s roads policing officers were putting a plan in place to ‘sting’ the car. A stinger is a device that deflates the vehicle’s tyres, stopping it from travelling.
During the pursuit, officers witnessed the occupants throw items from the vehicle, which were later recovered and are believed to be wraps of Class B drugs.
The vehicle was successfully stopped with a Stinger device in Nottinghamshire, with the driver and two passengers quickly arrested. A search of the vehicle further raised suspicions that those inside were involved in drug dealing with cash and suspected further drugs being found. The driver, aged 22 was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply and driving while over the prescribed limit of drugs.
Two men aged 18 and 19 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.
All three men have been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
