A teenager has been charged after police seized a machete which had been discarded in the street.
Officers were on patrol in Huntingdon Street around 12noon on Tuesday (11 March) when a teenager ran away from them.
After a foot chase the knife crime team was able to detain a suspect in Bangor Walk, St Ann’s, and recover a large knife nearby.
A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been charged with possession of a knife in a public place.
He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 26 March 2025.
Officers from the knife crime team have carried out more than 370 hours of plain clothes patrols in Nottingham city centre since 1 March following three knife crime-related incidents.
Police Constable Daniel Cresswell, of the knife crime team, said:
“Knife crime is a force priority so I hope the public welcome our proactive work in the city centre.
“Many of our patrols are in plain clothes, alongside the high-visibility policing also currently in place in the city, but we are working hard to keep people as safe as possible.”
