Tram route was closed after assault in Clifton

Officers are investigating after reports a teenager was assaulted in Clifton.

An altercation is believed to have taken place between two young men, one of whom was reported to have been stabbed.

A 17-year-old was taken to hospital for his injuries, but these not thought to be life threatening.

Part of the tram route in Clifton was closed as emergency services were called to Southchurch Drive just before 8.10pm on Tuesday (20 July 2021).

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Reports of incidents such as these always elicit a quick response. Officers were on scene in a matter of minutes securing evidence and attending to the injured male. Enquiries are continuing and officers are working hard to understand the circumstances of what happened.

“The consequences of carrying a knife are significant and we are committed to investigating such reports thoroughly.

“We continue our proactive work in tackling knife crime with targeted patrols and by raising awareness of the dangers of carrying knives as well as working with our partners in a bid to prevent people from becoming involved in knife crime in the first place.”

“We understand the concerns that incidents such as this cause local communities. However, it is believed this is an isolated incident between two people who know each other and there is no wider risk to the public. Officers will also be out patrolling the area and offer reassurance to residents.

“We are asking anyone who saw the incident or has any information to get in touch with Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 813 of 20 July 2021.”
