Two suspects were arrested after police stopped a car and found large quantities of cannabis on board.
Officers made the decision to stop the vehicle in Brightmoor Street, in the Hockley area of Nottingham, after it went through a red light at approximately 7.30 pm on Wednesday (29 October).
The car’s interior smelt of cannabis and located on the passenger seat were several large bags containing the Class B drug.
The driver, a 27-year-old man, failed a roadside test for controlled drugs and was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis, failing to comply with a red light signal and drug-driving.
The passenger, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.
PC Alex Smedley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Traffic laws exist for a reason and violations such as running a red light are unacceptable.
“We had no choice but to stop the vehicle and it was disappointing – although perhaps unsurprising – that further offences were discovered.
“The use of drugs continues to cause huge damage in our communities and as a force we continue to work hard every day to catch offenders and place them before the courts.”
