Dispersal orders in place in these five Nottingham areas on Halloween and Bonfire Night

Dispersal orders have been put in place across Lenton and Radford to tackle a rise in antisocial behaviour (ASB) ahead of Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Neighbourhood officers will be on hand to break up groups who are perceived as causing or likely to cause nuisance.

This action comes after a large number of young people gathered in Midland Way and St Peter’s Street with fireworks and launched them at surrounding buildings and people this past Monday (27 October).

Several instances of ASB and nuisance in Lenton have also been reported, causing disturbance to local residents throughout the evening and into the early hours.

Officers in City Central have issued two dispersal orders in response to this, with the first covering residential streets in Lenton, including Ilkeston Road, Maid Marian Way and Castle Boulevard.

The other order covers Radford, mainly Midland Way and St Peter’s Street.

These temporary dispersal orders will be in place from Friday 31 October at 4pm for a period of 48 hours, giving officers the power to order people out of a specific area.

They may be re-imposed at any time.

Inspector Elizabeth Gaskin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The vast majority of young people have been out enjoying Halloween in the community.

“Sadly, we have received several reports of antisocial behaviour over the last few days, and this is something we are actively investigating.

“These dispersal orders have been issued to target groups who are perceived as causing or likely to cause nuisance before the behaviour escalates.

“Neighbourhood teams have been working hard to ensure people are able to celebrate safely and in the right way, and anyone who refuses to leave the area when asked will be committing an offence.

“I would like to thank our local residents for their patience, cooperation and understanding over the weekend, and would encourage anyone witnessing any antisocial behaviour or criminal behaviour to get in touch.”

A dispersal order has been in place since Thursday at 4pm across the centre of Clifton, alongside an order across Arnold town centre from this morning (31 October) at 8am, both in place for 48 hours.

An order will also be in place across the city centre from Friday at 5pm to Sunday at 5pm.
