Two suspects were swiftly arrested by police responding to reports of a Radford supermarket burglary.
Officers were called to Morrisons, Ilkeston Road, at 2.26am on Wednesday (17 December).
It was reported two men had gained access to the property through a back alleyway.
Local officers headed to the surrounding area immediately.
A man was spotted exiting the alleyway and quickly detained at 2.31am.
Another suspect was then spotted in the vicinity and attempted to flee with a bicycle in tow, but after a swift foot pursuit, he was also apprehended.
Following a subsequent search, Class A drugs and a hammer were found to be in his possession.
A 33-year-old man and 41-year-old man were both arrested on suspicion of burglary.
The 41-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a Class A drug.
He was then further arrested on suspicion of intentional strangulation and threat to damage property following an earlier incident.
PC Jak Walker of the Radford Road response team, said:
“The officers involved in this response did a great job in locating two suspects within minutes of the reports coming in.
“Tackling burglary is a top priority for the Radford area as we understand just how devastating this crime can be – that’s why we will always take these kind of reports extremely seriously.”
