Nottinghamshire Traffic and Travel Updates: Tuesday 18 August

It is a relatively settled start on Nottinghamshire’s main strategic roads this morning.

The vehicle fire on the M1 near East Midlands Airport, which resulted in significant congestion yesterday evening, was resolved by approximately 19:00. Initial assessments indicate no new major closures on the M1, A1, A46 or A52.

Rail – reduced EMR timetable continues

East Midlands Railway remains on its temporary reduced Intercity timetable. National Rail’s disruption notice was updated at 20:39 on Monday 17 August and remains active, affecting services between Nottingham, Sheffield, Derby, Lincoln and London St Pancras, as well as some regional routes.

The heat-related disruption notice from last week has now been closed, with National Rail confirming that the weather-related problems have ended.

Looking ahead, engineering works will again affect EMR services to and from Sheffield on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August.

Trams

NET said on its 6 am update:

The following tram departures are cancelled: 07:52, 09:00 from Hucknall 06:46, 07:53, 09:01 from Toton 07:48, 09:33 from Phoenix 08:37 from Clifton

Passengers can check NET Nottingham Tram for individual departures before travelling.

Buses

The effects of CT4N ceasing trading continue. The operator stopped running on Friday 14 August, affecting Easylink and several Nottingham and Nottinghamshire services.

Nottingham City Transport Ltd is now operating the 18 between Nottingham, QMC, Beeston, Bramcote and Stapleford on an interim hourly timetable, with the expanded timetable due from 1 September.

Several roadworks also continue to affect NCT services. Linden Way at City Hospital remains closed until further notice, affecting the 40A, while works on Bramcote Lane in Wollaton continue to divert the 30.

Significant roadworks

Work at Lowdham Roundabout is now under way as part of the A614/A6097 improvement programme. NCT warns that the scheme, expected to last around 13 months, is likely to cause delays to Pathfinder 26 and will require some road closures.

A much bigger change begins next week. From Monday 24 August, Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road will close for 12 months for the A614/A6097 scheme. The closure will force changes to the Rushcliffe Villager, with Shelford and Gunthorpe no longer served by that route. Eight additional Monday-to-Saturday Nottsbus 747 journeys are being provided instead.
