Passengers now have the option to book trips with a local operator via the Uber app.
Uber has today announced the launch of Local Cab in Nottingham and Lincolnshire, giving passengers the option to book trips with a local operator via the Uber app.
Uber, which first launched in Nottingham in 2015, is now working with locally licensed operators to meet the high level of demand in the city.
Passengers will be able to use Local Cab alongside regular-Uber operated options, including UberX, Comfort and Lux.
Local Cab trips will be passed to two Nottingham operators to fulfill – Central Cars and Southside Cars.
The arrival of Uber’s Local Cab product in Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire follows a string of previous launches in towns and cities across the UK, including Manchester and Birmingham.
Rob Gee, Manager at Central Cars, said: “We’re proud to be one of the first operators in Nottingham to launch with Local Cab. This will enable us to offer more passengers in the city access to taxis at the touch of a button.”
Brent Foster, Director at Southside Cars, said: “Demand for taxi services has grown considerably in recent months, so it’s great to be able to give passengers another way to get from A to B in Nottingham.”
Zhahed Younis, Director at Acorn Taxis, said: “Partnering with Uber will provide more transport options to the local community in Boston, allowing them to easily book trips via taxi. We’re hoping that the extra trips Local Cab generates will also encourage more new drivers to join our fleet.”
Jamie Heywood, Uber’s Regional General Manager for Northern and Eastern Europe, said: “We’re excited to add Nottingham and Lincolnshire to our growing list of locations across England where riders can access both UberX and Local Cab in the same app.
“This will help maximise earnings opportunities for drivers while giving passengers more choice, meaning that everyone will benefit. We’re looking forward to launching Local Cab in more UK towns and cities soon.”
