Three stolen cars have been recovered and two suspects arrested after a series of burglaries in Cotgrave.
Properties in Rectory Road, White Furrows and Bramble Way were all broken into in the early hours of Tuesday (28 July) morning.
Car keys were taken from within the addresses on each occasion, with intruders then unlocking and stealing the vehicles parked outside.
The trio of break-ins all happened at various points between midnight and 2am, with a police investigation duly launched after the incidents were reported.
Having established the burglaries could be linked, Nottinghamshire Police officers conducted further inquiries that led to two of the stolen cars being located near Leeds, around an hour later.
When West Yorkshire Police colleagues then spotted the stolen Audi and BMW being driven in convoy, a lengthy pursuit took place, during which both cars were driven at high speed, before finally coming to a stop.
The two drivers – a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man – were detained at the scene, while the owners of the stolen vehicles were informed their cars had been found.
Fast-forward to later that same evening and the third set of victims also then received the same news, after officers found an Audi behind garages in Cotgrave that had been stolen during one of the burglaries.
Both the suspects were ultimately arrested for three counts of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop.
The 19-year-old suspect was additionally arrested for driving while disqualified.
Detective Constable Annabel Walker, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a great example of our officers working in tandem with neighbouring forces to achieve a positive and rapid result.
“Having heard three vehicles had been stolen during car key burglaries across Cotgrave, we were quickly able to pinpoint the location of two of them up north, near Leeds.
“This information was then passed onto our colleagues in West Yorkshire, who did a great job bringing the stolen cars to a halt and arresting two suspects, following a lengthy pursuit.
“Not only that, but our policing teams in Cotgrave then also managed to find and recover the third car taken during the burglary series, later that evening.
“Burglary is a horribly invasive crime that can have a real impact from an emotional standpoint, with the theft of a car during such an incident having the potential to affect the livelihoods of victims too.
“We hope the speed with which we managed to recover the vehicles and arrest two suspects provides the public with some reassurance.”
