Updated: Flooding expected along River Trent with 12 warnings in force today

Flood warnings meaning flooding is expected and action should be taken remain in force along sections of the River Trent this morning, although the number of affected areas has fallen as river levels gradually move downstream.

The Environment Agency distinguishes flood warnings from flood alerts by advising that warnings indicate water is likely to reach land, roads and potentially property, rather than simply posing a risk.

The latest updates issued during the early evening of 10 February and early morning of 11 February show 12 active warning locations along the Trent corridor. In Nottinghamshire, warnings remain in place at Collingham and Girton, and at Fiskerton Mill including Rolleston Fields, Gorse and Nurseries. At Farndon, the warning covers Trent and Devon riverside properties including Dorner Avenue and Wyke and Marsh Lane.

Further downstream, multiple warnings continue across Newark including riverside properties, the Sugar Factory and Kelham Bridge area, and Tolney Lane and the Riverside Marinas, locations which have historically experienced flooding during sustained high river levels.

Upstream and along the wider Trent valley, warnings also cover Sawley Marina including Sawley Lock, Swarkestone, Trentlock, Cavendish Bridge and Castle Donington around Kings Mill.

Several warnings were refreshed between late morning and late afternoon as flows passed through the catchment, with updated times ranging from late morning to shortly after 5pm.

Flood warnings typically mean floodplain land, riverside paths, car parks and low-lying roads will be affected first, though property flooding can occur in known vulnerable areas such as parts of Newark and Collingham during prolonged high levels. Residents are advised to avoid driving through floodwater, move vehicles from low ground and follow Environment Agency safety advice while river levels remain elevated.
