Testing

There were 1,820,674 tests reported on 6 January 2022. This shows an increase of 18.5%compared to the previous 7 days.

Between 31 December 2021 and 6 January 2022, there have been 11,676,544 tests.

Cases

A confirmed case is someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

178,250 new people had a confirmed positive test result reported on 7 January 2022.

Between 1 January 2022 and 7 January 2022, 1,260,535 people had a confirmed positive test result. This shows an increase of 19.8% compared to the previous 7 days.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are currently given in 3 doses.

51,897,289 people had been given a first dose by the end of 6 January 2022.

47,600,028 people had been given a second dose by the end of 6 January 2022.

35,066,144 people had been given a booster or third dose by the end of 6 January 2022.

Healthcare

Some people with coronavirus have to go into hospital.

2,434 people with coronavirus went into hospital on 3 January 2022.

Between 28 December 2021 and 3 January 2022, 15,812 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 57.7% compared to the previous 7 days.

There were 18,454 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 6 January 2022.

Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe.

There were 868 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 6 January 2022.

Deaths

There were 229 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on 7 January 2022.

Between 1 January 2022 and 7 January 2022, there have been 1,120 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 46.0% compared to the previous 7 days.
