Updates: A1 closed both ways serious collision between HGV and motorcycle

Nottinghamshire Police isleading the response to a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a heavy goods vehicle on the A1.

Road remains closed


Nottinghamshire Police | 5 pm 

The A1 has been closed in both directions between Carlton-on-Trent and Tuxford due to a serious road traffic collision.
The road is expected to remain shut for some time.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes


National Highways has deployed traffic officers and contractors to support the police response, implement traffic management, and assist with the subsequent clean-up operation.

Diversion Routes

Southbound Traffic

Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the solid Triangle diversion symbol.

  • Exit the A1 southbound at Apleyhead Interchange.
  • Follow the A614 south for approximately 11 km to the A614/A616 roundabout.
  • Turn left onto the A616 and continue through Ompton and Kneesall to South Muskham (approximately 12 km).
  • At the South Muskham mini-roundabout, turn left onto the B6325.
  • Continue to North Muskham Interchange.
  • At the roundabout, take the third exit to rejoin the A1 southbound.

Please note: Road users wishing to join the A1 southbound at Markham Moor Interchange should continue northbound on the A1 to Apleyhead Interchange before following the signed diversion route.

Northbound Traffic

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the solid Square diversion symbol.

  • Exit the A1 northbound at North Muskham Junction (B6325).
  • Follow the B6325 to South Muskham.
  • At the mini-roundabout, turn right onto the A616 and continue through Kneesall, Ompton, and Ollerton.
  • At the A616/A6075 roundabout, turn left onto Ollerton Road (A616).
  • Continue to the A616/A614 roundabout and turn right onto the A614.
  • Follow the A614 for approximately 11 km to Apleyhead Interchange (A1/A614/A57).
  • Rejoin the A1 northbound.
