Updates: A453 closed at A52 Wilford and M1 after lorry with two fork trucks on board overturned

The A453 in Nottinghamshire is closed southbound between the A52 near Wilford and the M1 J24 near Kegworth due to an overturned lorry, which occurred at approximately 12:04. The lorry was carrying two fork trucks and as a result, the road was completely blocked.

The lane closure remains to remove the lorry’s cargo.

A full closure will go in later this evening for recovery of the vehicle itself.

Lane 2 (of 2) has now reopened on the A453 southbound between the A52 near Wilford and the M1 J24 near Kegworth.

Lane 1 remains closed for recovery of 2 x forklifts which the lorry was transporting.

A full closure will be required later today to recover the lorry.

Local Police and Ambulance units initially attended the scene. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

The road will remain closed until recovery of the lorry and fork lifts is completed. Upon completion, carriageway assessments and clear up works will take place.

Diversion Route

Traffic is being diverted via the solid diamond diversion symbol on road signs:

  • From the A52/A453 Clifton Interchange continue in a north-westerly direction the the roundabout with Beeston Road / Abbey Street at Dunkirk.
  • Take the first exit onto the A6005 Beeston Road and continue onto the A6464 until Priory Roundabout.
  • Continue on the A52 travelling through Bramcote and Bardhills roundabouts, until the exit to M1 J25
  • Exit the A52and join the M1 southbound until J24
