A suspect has been arrested following a house fire in West Bridgford.
Emergency services were called to Lingmell Close, after receiving reports a property was on fire.
The front door was found to be ablaze when they arrived at the house around 3am on Friday (19 July).
A uniformed officer entered the building to help someone trapped inside before the fire service arrived.
The occupant was safely removed soon afterwards and taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which caused extensive damage having spread through most of the house.
A joint police and fire investigation into the blaze is ongoing, although it is currently suspected to have been lit deliberately.
Police have now arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This must have been an incredibly scary experience for those inside the house.
“Thankfully nobody was seriously injured, although this could’ve quite easily been very different.
“That nobody was hurt more is in no small part down to the rapid response and actions of the emergency service workers in attendance.
“An investigation into the fire is underway, although we are currently working under the assumption that this could’ve been caused deliberately.
“As part of our inquiries, we can now confirm that we’ve arrested a suspect on suspicion of attempted murder.
“It’s important we gather all the information needed to quickly establish the facts, so that we can get to the bottom of what happened.
“We therefore want to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened or heard anything that could potentially assist our inquiries.”
Inspector Tim Cuthbert, neighbourhood policing inspector for Rushcliffe, added: “We fully appreciate that news of this incident will concern members of our community.
“Bearing this in mind, we will be providing an increased police presence in and around the area, to hopefully provide residents with some reassurance.”
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the police on 101, quoting incident 59 of 19 July 2024, or report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
