West Bridgford salon offers free self-care sessions to cancer patients

West Bridgford hair salon, No.4, has joined forces with NHS worker Kirsty-Louise Barrett to provide free self-care sessions for cancer patients, survivors, and hardworking NHS staff.

Kirsty-Louise, a secretary in Nottingham City Hospital’s Oncology and Radiotherapy department, was inspired to launch the initiative after losing her grandmother to cancer, and wanted to offer support to others affected by the disease.

The partnership provides a thoughtful escape for those undergoing treatment, in recovery, or working on the frontlines of care. Guests at the salon can enjoy a professional hair wash, blow-dry, and soothing head massage.

Charlotte Moonsamy who owns No.4 said: “Having witnessed numerous clients navigate their cancer journeys, I’ve come to appreciate the profound impact a visit to the salon can have on their inner sense of well-being. Recognising this, I felt compelled to extend that uplifting experience to others facing similar challenges.

“Conversations with Kirsty shed light on how such gestures not only benefit patients, but also offer a moment of respite for the dedicated oncology staff. Through this initiative, we aim to touch more lives in a positive and impactful way.”

Kirsty said: “They posted that they wanted to give back to the community, and I reached out to see whether we could work together. It’s such a wonderful thing that we’ve managed to arrange.

“We offer it out to patients in the ward and to patients who have recovered from cancer. It’s really for anyone who has been affected by cancer.

“It’s amazing to be a part of this, and I’m just grateful to Charlotte for doing this. I am doing this because I lost my nan to cancer a few years ago, and she always taught me that small things can make people’s day.

“We just want to give back to the community and do something nice. People have told me that this has made such a difference to their lives. The feedback we have so far has been so lovely, people are really loving this project.”
