Woman arrested after fire at Nottingham flats

A suspect has been charged after a fire at a property in Nottingham.

Emergency services were called to North Sherwood Street shortly before 6am on Monday (4 August).

Six flats within a two-storey building were evacuated after a fire alarm sounded.

Firefighters discovered a sofa and mattress on fire inside one of the flats and extinguished the blaze.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Claire Graham, of North Sherwood Street, Nottingham, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered and possession of a Class B drug.

The 42-year-old is due to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (5 August).

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Walker, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“After a joint initial investigation with our fire service colleagues, we believe this fire was started deliberately.

“Thankfully, the fire was rapidly brought under control and no-one was hurt due to the efficient work of firefighters.

“We have now been able to charge a suspect so I hope members of the community are reassured by this robust response from the emergency services.

“Our investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with any information or doorbell, CCTV, mobile phone or dash-cam footage which could help with our inquiries should get in touch.”
