Year 6 pupils at Jesse Gray School graduate from D.A.R.E programme

Year Six students at Jesse Gray School graduate from the D.A.R.E. programme on Tuesday 8 December.

The students completed the D.A.R.E. (Drug, Abuse, Resistance Education) programme with support from local D.A.R.E. School Officer Kirstie Mackintosh.

Local County Councillors Gordon and Jonathan Wheeler provided funding towards the programme, and Cllr Jonathan Wheeler was invited to a special assembly where she presented the certificates to the children.

As part of the Assembly, the Year six classes presented to the Year 5 classes on what they had learnt through the programme as well as singing the D.A.R.E song!

Head Teacher Chris Belton told The Wire:

‘The Year 6 children at Jesse Gray Primary School graduated on Wednesday following the successful completion of the DARE programme.

‘The children read comprehensive reports about what they had learned about making the right choices about risks that they may encounter as they get older.

‘The DARE officer Kirsty Mckintosh, stated that she will miss her Wednesday afternoons with this group as they had been so engaged in the work.

‘The school would like to thank Councillors Jonathan and Gordon Wheeler for supporting this invaluable part of Year 6 education.’

Councillor Jonathan Wheeler, County Councillor for West Bridgford South added: ‘Myself and Cllr Gordon Wheeler were delighted to be able to support the D.A R.E programme again at Jesse Gray School, and I was personally thrilled to be invited to present the certificates to every graduate individually.

‘Listening to what they learn took me back 25 or so years to when I was in their shows studying the D.A.R.E. programme and it is a very important programme giving key life skills to the children. A big well done to all the children and teachers for their incredible work. Jesse Gray is a wonderful school and a credit to our community.’
