 Confirmed cases

A confirmed case is where a person has had a positive test result for Coronavirus.

There were 27,052 new people with a confirmed positive test result reported on 19 December 2020.

Between 31 January and 19 December 2020, there have been 2,004,219 people who have had a confirmed positive test result.

 

 

 Healthcare

Some people with Coronavirus have to go into hospital.

1,907 people with Coronavirus had to go into hospital on 15 December 2020.

Between 23 March and 15 December 2020, there have been 247,437 people who have had to go into hospital with Coronavirus.

There were 18,771 people in hospital with Coronavirus on 17 December 2020.

Some people who go to the hospital need to use a special device called a Mechanical Ventilator to help them breathe.

There were 1,364 Coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 18 December 2020.

 

 Deaths

Sadly, many people have died.

There were 534 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for Coronavirus reported on 19 December 2020.

Between 2 March and 17 December 2020, there have been 66,965 deaths within 28 days of a positive Coronavirus test.
